Dr. Todd came to TCU in 1997 from the University of Cincinnati, where he earned his PhD. He also earned a Magistère in French Culture and Civilization from the Sorbonne and an M.A. in French from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Todd's main scholarly interest is in German intellectual history from 1850 to the present. He has published articles on the poets Stefan George and Paul Celan, and the critics Theodor Adorno and Ernst Robert Curtius. His most recent article appeared in the Camden House Companion to the Works of Stefan George. He is also concerned with American cultural politics past and present: in the past insofar as it affected the German-American community; in the present inasmuch as it shapes our image of and relations with European countries. A recent development in his work is a return to his interest in jazz. He studies saxophone and music theory and performs in jazz groups on and off the TCU campus. In addition to his scholarly and creative pursuits, he very much enjoys introducing undergraduate students to the German language and culture. In the free time that he has, he enjoys spending time with his family (wife Heather and children Henry and Phoebe) and friends.
