About the German Program

 

 

German Studies Major Requirements :
30 semester hours in a combination of modern language courses and area studies courses.

To earn a major in Modern Language Studies, students must complete 15 hours in their language of specialization at the 30000 level or above. In order for these courses to count toward the major, they must be taught in the relevant language.

In addition, students must complete 15 hours of courses, offered by other departments, which are thematically related to their language of specialization. These courses may be chosen from the list of approved courses in each language field, but others may also be counted, with the approval of the major advisor. ( Further information )

German Minor Requirements :
Brandenburgtor
A minimum of 18 semester hours, exclusive of courses on the 10000 level.

Third Year College German (German 30053 and 30063) are prerequisites to all higher-numbered courses.

Students entering the program with previous training in German may receive credit by examination documented by an official score report from the examining agency.

Study Abroad:

TCU in Germany (Cologne/Berlin)

New Testing Center

TCU is now an official testing center for the internationally recognized language certification exams of the Goethe Institut. Dr. Scott Williams and Dr. Cynthia Chapa of TCU along with Dr. Lana Rings of nearby UTA are certified examiners for the levels B1, B2, and C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. We will administer the next exams on Saturday, April 26, 2008. Contact Dr. Scott Williams for information.
