| Major in Modern Language Studies |
|
Beginning
Fall 2007, the Department of Modern Languages and
Literatures will offer students the opportunity
to get a B.A. with a Major in Modern Language Studies.
Taking advantage of TCU’s
innovative new core curriculum, the new Modern
Language Studies major will combine rigorous work
in an approved language, emphasizing all skills,
with related courses in other departments. The
result is an interdisciplinary major especially
well suited to prepare students for employment
in the global marketplace.
Requirements for the B.A. degree with a major
in Modern Language Studies:
30 semester hours in a combination of modern language
courses and area studies courses.
Each student forms a program of study in consultation
with a faculty advisor in the Department of Modern
Languages & Literatures. Students may concentrate
in one of the following languages taught in the department: German
and French.
General requirements:
To earn a major in Modern Language Studies, students
must complete 15 hours in their language of specialization
at the 30000 level or above. In order for these
courses to count toward the major, they must be taught
in the relevant language.
In addition, students must complete 15 hours of courses,
offered by other departments, which are thematically
related to their language of specialization. These
courses may be chosen from the list of approved courses
in each language field, but others may also be counted,
with the approval of the major advisor.
